CAMH is Canada's leading addiction and mental health teaching hospital. They improve the lives of those affected by addiction and mental health problems and promote the health of people in Ontario and beyond.
More than 100 full-time scientists and over 500 staff and students are working together to better understand mental illness and substance use disorders and improve diagnosis, prevention, intervention, treatment and public policy initiatives. Their scientists are leaders in developing world-class research and translating these pioneering discoveries into clinical "bed-side" care.
Their Research Program cover four areas of scientific focus:
- Clinical Research;
- the PET Centre; and
- Social, Prevention and Health Policy Research
State-of-the-art resources including wet lab and animal facilities, and a fully functioning Positron Emission Tomography (PET) facility with two sophisticated scanners and a cyclotron are available. They compiled an unmatched collection of 15,500 blood-based DNA samples from patients suffering from various psychiatric disorders.
