At the Research Centre Juelich 4,300 staff members dedicate themselves to exploring topics that are of current social relevance in one of the largest research institutions in Europe.
In Juelich, scientists from the disciplines of physics, chemistry, biology, medicine and engineering base their close cooperations on the key competencies of physics and scientific computing. The work comprises both long-term contributions in basic research for science and technology, as well as specific technological solutions for industry.
The Technology Transfer Bureau (TTB) forms the interface between the Research Centre and industry. Its staff initiate contacts between scientific institutes and industrial companies who wish to cooperate with Research Centre Juelich.
Most of the industrial partners are small and medium-sized enterprises.
The wide range of activities of the staff of the Technology Transfer Bureau is summarized in the following.
Together with their industrial partners:
- they define in advance what is a successful problem solution
- they set up a cooperation agreement defining the type and scope of the task, the contribution by the partners and the regular reporting of results
- they secure their know-how by patent applications. Their law and patent department guarantees that patent matters are proficiently dealt with
- they develop functional laboratory models and advise partners on the product, from prototype up to the first series.
